Spotlight on Midnight's Atonement

Midnight's Atonement (The Cynn Cruors

Bloodline Series Book 3)

Graeme Temple is nearly killed during the Cynn Cruors’ siege of Dac Valerian’s fortress on the Isle of

Man, when he takes a silver bullet intended for his Dux, Roarke Hamilton. While on the mend, Graeme

meets Kate Corrigan, a woman who enkindles his lust, his desire to possess, his need to protect. It is

Kate who gives him a reason to be a better person than he was before.

Kate is an investigative journalist who has been following a local councillor she believes is involved in

human trafficking. When she meets Graeme one rainy day, the attraction she feels toward him is

something she longs for but refuses to have. Kate is about to expose the councillor when her friends are

kidnapped to silence her. But she refuses to let go. Knowing that the councilman can wield his extensive

influence over the police, she looks for help from outside.

Thrown together, their attraction for each other becomes a passionate conflagration that will not leave

them unscathed. But not all is cut and dried. Graeme finds out that the person Kate is after is the very

person he has been searching for, for centuries. A great sacrifice is made that can break them apart. Will

the feelings they have for each other be more than enough to get them through this storm? Will

Graeme be a better man when this debacle is over, and will he be the man to break through the walls of

Kate’s heart?

Kate returned to the car to take the yellow ticket out from underneath her wiper. As soon as she took

the penalty notice out, the gate to the building’s basement parking lifted. She made her way quickly out

of the driveway, intent on reaching the bus stop but felt someone tapping her from behind. She whirled

around defensively and almost in panic when the stranger standing in front of her took her breath away.

Kate could see that he was a head taller than she was because she had to take a step back to look at him

without having the rain fall into her eyes.

The raindrops that pelted him started to soak his black t-shirt. He looked powerful, his chest broad and

muscular that tapered to rock hard abs that sent her pulse reeling and her mouth-watering, an

incredible specimen of magnetism. His had his legs braced apart emphasizing the muscled limbs he had

underneath his denims and the slimness of his hips. His jeans rode low on his waist and Kate’s mouth

became dry at the sight of the flat V that led to what was hidden. Kate looked up at his hooded grey

green eyes, the hollowness around it emphasizing the possibility that he was just getting over some

illness. Those same eyes assessed her and she felt liquid excitement pool between her thighs at seeing

the sexual interest smouldering in them. Her heart fluttered more and her belly clenched with a longing

she nearly couldn’t hold back. It was primal, an ache that somehow Kate believed this stranger in front

of her could satisfy. That thought caused her face to flush and redden even more when his perfectly

formed mouth lifted to one side in a sexy grin. Did she say it out loud? Could he perhaps read her mind?

“Are you okay?”

Kate watched his mouth move unable to hear what he was saying under the sound of the rain and the

thundering in her ears. Her eyes widened when he reached out to her as she felt the heat of his hand

like a bolt of electricity that enticed the pool of arousal to increase between her thighs.

“Are you okay?” he said louder.

“My car’s been clamped.” She said sputtering to get the rain water out of her mouth. “I’m soaked and I

have to get home. Does it look like I’m okay?” Kate turned away remorse flooding her. “Sorry, I didn’t

mean to snap at you. But I’m cold and I need to go.”

“Why don’t you come inside?” He hollered over the rain. The deluge abated one moment then

increased the next and Kate felt like a drowned icicle.

“Why would I want to do that?” Kate huffed as she frowned.

“Well, first to get out of the rain. Wait until it subsides before you catch a cold,” the stranger remarked.

“If you could wait, I can take you home.”

“How do you know I was going home?” Kate remained stubborn despite her teeth chattering. Her wet

mop of hair only aggravated the cold seeping into her head. Her mascara ran like black waterfalls down

her face, and the frozen tendrils of rainwater trailed agonizingly in rivulets down her back.

His lips thinned even as his eyes showed his surprise.

“You said so. Look, are we going to continue this discussion in the rain or are you going to join me

inside?” he asked.

Kate backed away. Far be it for her to deny the deadly attraction this man had, there was no way she

was going with him.

“If you didn’t talk to me, I would have been able to get the bus and not get soaked as I am now,” she

retorted. She was freezing and Mr Drop Dead Fantasy Guy looked as though he was just soaked by a

summer squall, not a winter’s deluge.

He looked away in exasperation before returning to pin her with his scowl. “Have it your way then.”

He turned on his heel and went through the half rolled up gate.

Kate couldn’t stop fuming.

“What a prick,” she grumbled before crossing the street to wait for the bus.

Graeme swore inside the lift all the way to the Faesten’s penthouse. He was still swearing when the lift’s

doors opened.

“Who’s got under your skin?” Finn Qualtrough asked his brow arched enquiringly, as he crossed the

marble lobby.

“Sorry, Finn. Didn’t realize you and Eirene were up.” Graeme replied by way of greeting raking both his

hands through his wet hair.

“We do have showers you know.” Finn quipped as he approached his friend. “We’ve come a long way

from bathing in the loch or the rain.”

Graeme shook his head as he grimaced in good humour. “Don’t I know it. I’ll clean this mess up.”

Finn waved his hand in dismissal. “Leave it. Go and get a proper shower.”

“Cheers.” Graeme said. He was about to bound up the staircase when Finn’s question halted him.

“Who’s got you riled up anyway?”

Graeme turned to his fellow Cynn Cruor after taking off his t-shirt. His face turned to a slight scowl when

he saw Finn’s amused grin.

“Who says I’m riled up?”

Finn raised a thick brow as though saying, ‘You’re not fooling me’.

“Where’s Eirene?” Graeme asked in an attempt to deflect Finn’s line of questioning.

“Over here,” Eirene spoke as she came out of the kitchen. Then she giggled. “I see.”

Graeme rolled his eyes at them both. He pointed at the two of them alternatingly.

“That telepathic communication between mates can be irritating.”

Eirene laughed. “Oh Graeme, it can’t be that bad. She might not have been worth your time.”

“Who said it was a she? I never said anything.”

Eirene’s mouth twitched. “Uh huh.”

“Have you become psychic now?”

“I don’t need to be when you’ve left the CCTV feed on Camera Three up on the LED screen.” Eirene

pointed her chin toward the nerve centre.

Graeme felt the heat creep up his neck and flush his face.

Her hardening nipples poked through the beige lacy cups of her balconette bra. Graeme’s eyes seemed

to burn brighter and Kate couldn’t stop herself from arching her back, offering her breasts for his taking.

Sensual flames licked her skin everywhere Graeme’s hands touched, her body welcoming the contact.

He moulded her waist up her ribcage to cup the underside of her breasts again before grazing the peaks

through the lace cups with his thumbs. The rubbing of her nipples sent electricity down to her sex

causing her to become wetter. Then his thumbs were replaced by his mouth and tongue. Kate was

caught up in the dizzying pleasure of his mouth. She moaned when he spoke against her nipples, the

vibrations rippling through her.

“My eyes turn gold when I desire someone.”

Kate braced one arm against the table while she held on to Graeme’s head with the other, the pleasure

she felt becoming unbearable. She needed something more. She needed something inside her.

She wanted Graeme.

Her back arched and her breath sighed out of her when Graeme ripped her bra and feasted on her

“Ohh…” she moaned as her legs went around Graeme’s waist, pulling him closer with her thighs to rub

herself against the thick stalk inside his denims. When Graeme let go of her tits and demanded that she

submit to his kiss, she opened up to him. She allowed him to explore every crevice of her mouth as she

gloried at his taste. She kissed him hungrily, sucking on his lips, nibbling and teasing his tongue, giving as

he demanded and taking as much as she wanted.

“Graeme please….I need more. Please give me more.” She licked against his throat taking small nips and

bites, grazing her teeth against his salty skin. God, she’d never felt this wild before! She purred at the

feel of his taut skin against her palms, his flesh rippling and tensing everywhere she touched.

He captured her mouth in another torrid kiss that sent her pulse to a frenzy. She couldn’t get enough,

the pain in the middle of her core becoming slightly uncomfortable. She nipped at his mouth and sucked

on his tongue before letting her tongue swirl around it. She tasted traces of mint even as her nose was

filled with his masculine scent.

Graeme let go of her mouth to graze his teeth against her jaw to reach the sensitive spot behind her

“Tell me what you want Kate.”

Graeme gently squeezed her breasts before he rolled her nipples between his fingers. Kate cried out in

“Tell me.”

“I don’t know,” she whimpered against his neck, feeling as though she was deliciously melting. She

turned her head slightly, her mouth against his skin. Her tongue snaked out tasting his saltiness before

she sucked the skin over his pulse. The need to suck some more became stronger and she sucked

harder, she could taste something coppery against her tongue. Graeme growled.

“Ancients!” he pushed her away gently.

Kate looked at him in confusion and alarm. Then realization dawned.

“You don’t like me.” She whispered, her heart thundering in her throat. Desire didn’t cause it. Rejection

“Not like you?” Graeme asked her his breathing laboured. “Kate I’ve wanted you since the day I first saw

you. You sucking on my neck almost made me come in my jeans.”

A deeper blush stole over her cheeks. “Oh.”

“I want you inside me too,” she sighed before looking down. “But I’ve not done this in a very long time. I

don’t know how else to ask.” She looked up. “Except to say that I need you.”

Graeme chuckled. “You’re doing pretty good so far.”

“Please don’t tease.”

Graeme gave her a hard kiss that sent her senses reeling towards sensual meltdown.

“I’m not teasing.” His eyes darkened, his lust apparent. “Lie down.”
